With the “Jurassic Park” theme song playing in the background, this video of baby quails is too cute! Katarina Bunnylord is a Star Stable/Roblox YouTuber. Her TikTok has less of a singular purpose, and she shares animals in her yard, what her 2-year-old is eating, and other family videos. Her yard is currently full of baby quails.

As these little chirpers run through the grass, it is easy to picture them as dinosaurs. The few adult quail tower above the grass. The baby quails barely make a ripple as they scurry across the yard. They appear as very small, quick-moving balls rolling through the grass.
Kat’s videos catch the little birds scampering about, no doubt hunting bugs, their primary source of nutrition. If you aren’t sure what you’re looking at, you might think there was a selective breeze blowing through.
There are six species of quail in North America: bobwhite quail, California quail, mountain quail, Gambel’s quail, scaled quail, and Mearn’s quail. It is difficult to tell which species is haunting Kat’s yard, but our best guess is scaled quail.

Birds and Dinosaurs
The use of the “Jurassic Park” theme song is fitting, given that all birds are direct descendants of dinosaurs. The relationship between birds and dinosaurs was first proposed in 1860 with the discovery of a fossil of a feathered dinosaur. That bird-like dinosaur was named Archaeopteryx, which means “ancient wing.”

It was about the size of a crow and weighed only two pounds, with a wing span of two feet. The Archaeopteryx had feathers, three toes, and a wishbone. Although they don’t know that Archaeopteryx could actually fly, scientists surmise that it flapped its wings and could glide.
