If you haven’t had your dose of adorably cute bull lately, strap on for the ride of a lifetime! When new cowboys join the circuit, they don’t just wake up one day and hop on a bucking bull. Supervised practice bull rides are offered to children as part of the rodeo. The experience allows these baby cowboys to sit on an actual rodeo bull, grasp the bull rope, and ride until the 6-second regulation time expires.

Rodeo staff, clowns, and parents work to ensure the safety of all participating children. The bulls are loaded in the chute, and the baby cowboys are gently placed on the bull. Some of the tiny dynamos are more than ready for this experience. They come out of the chute with a raised arm and hold on tight, ready to qualify for a scored ride.
A regulation ride means that a rider needs to remain on a bucking bull for at least 6 seconds to get a score for that ride. They must hold the bull rope, not touch the animal or themselves, and not fall off. The raised arm ensures a qualifying ride. Scoring for this rodeo event is similar in the U.S., Canada, Brazil, and Australia. These baby cowboys get a practice ride to feel the success of a completed ride without the danger.

After their regulation ride ends, staff pluck the baby cowboys from the animals. Rodeo clowns lead the bulls away as they prepare for the next budding rodeo star to come out of the chute. When the kids turn 8, they can join the miniature bull riders circuit and participate against other kids in the 8 to 13 age bracket.
