Andrew Garfield Remembers Heath Ledger

While many may remember Heath Ledger for his iconic role as the Joker, Andrew Garfield remembers him from their time filming The Imagination of Doctor Parnassus. Sadly, Ledger died during filming.

Although he is no longer with us, his co-star Andrew Garfield keeps his memory alive by sharing some of his memories. Andrew Garfield told PEOPLE that he remembers Heath Ledger’s generosity and kindness.

Andrew said, “I remember the first day I met him. He was wearing these amazing Ray-Ban sunglasses, and I said, ‘Hey, cool sunglasses,’ and he was like, ‘Oh yea?’ And the next day they were in my dressing room. He just left them for me.”

From there, Andrew gushed over Heath’s “beautiful creative spirit.” The actor died at only 28 years old, but he still touched the hearts of many during his short time with us.

Remembering Heath Ledger

Andrew Garfield continued, “I think he was kind of a beacon, it was kind of like a wild animal. He had just done the Joker. He had just finished doing The Dark Knight, and he was so smug about it.” Andrew recalled that Heath knew that the film would be a success.

Andrew also mentioned that Heath was very focused on getting his roles right.

“He would say before every take or maybe one take every scene, ‘Let’s have some fun with this one,'” Andrew shared.

Heath Ledger was very concerned with getting his performances just right. Based on some of his iconic roles and the love he received, we think it is safe to say he did a great job.
