One of the best parts of having an Amazon Prime membership is the fast and free shipping. Depending on what you order, it may arrive at your doorstep in just a couple of hours. Many people took advantage of the Amazon Prime Invitee program since it launched in 2009. But according to a statement shared with ABC News, that program is set to end in just a few weeks.

“The Invitee Program, which enabled sharing of the Prime shipping benefit only, is being phased out,” a representative shared in an email.
The end of the Invitee Program means the beginning of something new: Amazon Family.
Family Members Can Share Amazon Family Under Certain Conditions
According to Amazon, Amazon Family will allow two adults in the same household, up to four teenagers added to the account before April 7, 2025, and four children’s profiles.
“To share benefits, you and your invitee must live together at the same primary residential address. This is the address you consider to be your home and where you spend the majority of your time,” the website explains. “When you create your Amazon Family, you’ll be prompted to review your content sharing settings through Family Library. If you don’t wish to share any content, uncheck all of the boxes next to the content types. You can always go back and choose to share content later.”
Amazon wants the program to work for everyone, but explains that people can’t move from one family to another.
“Amazon Family members can leave and re-join your Amazon Family anytime, but they must wait 12 months before joining a different Amazon Family,” according to Amazon.
For those interested, an Amazon Prime membership currently costs $139 per year, or $14.99 per month. Amazon also offers a Prime Video membership for $8.99 a month and a student price of $7.49 per month.
