Alpaca’s “Alarm Call” Is Not Alarming At All—It’s Down Right Adorable!

This alpaca’s “alarm call” is hilariously cartoonish, and we can’t stop laughing!

Alpacas are incredibly vulnerable in the wild. The flight animals are easy targets for predators because they don’t have any natural defenses. So when a member of a pack sees or senses danger, they let out a loud call to get the others’ attention.

Typically, Alpacas are a bit high-strung, so the scares end up being nothing. But sometimes, there really is a wolf or coyote lurking in the distance, so the herd is ready to run.

Pubity recently posted a video on behalf of Granite State Alpacas that shows one of its long-necked residents sounding off to alert his friends about impending danger. Before hearing the sound, one might assume it would have an aggressive or startling tone to it. But it’s actually quite disarming, at least to humans.

The video shows an alpaca named Melody showcasing her call, and it sounds exactly “like a squeaky dog toy.” It plays perfectly with the animal’s goofy hair and buck teeth.

“I’m sorry. I just can’t take that seriously,” someone commented on the original post. “The teefs. The haircut. And now you tell me it sounds like a squeaky toy? Get outta here.”

“When did you realize your alpaca was a disguised rubber chicken?” another person joked.

“According to my labrador, this is in fact a squeaky toy and she would now like to know where I have hidden it 🤦🏼‍♀️😂” someone laughed.

After searching the internet, we can confirm that all alpacas do indeed have similar alarm calls. But Melody’s sound a bit more hilarious than others. Either way, we’re delighted to have learned this information!
