Ali Wong’s And Steven Yeun’s On-Screen “Beef” Makes Golden Globes History.

Steven Yeun and Ali Wong smile as they pose together on the Golden Globes red carpet, awards for best actor and actress in a limited series in their hands.

Watching award shows to see which performers will get recognized for their work is fun, but it’s even better when a win makes history. Last night, two of these wins took place back to back and with actors from the same show, Beef on Netflix. Ali Wong and Steven Yeun took home Golden Globe awards for best actress and actor in a limited series. In doing so, the Golden Globes reports that this makes them the first actors of Asian descent to do so in these categories.

As you can imagine, Wong and Yeun have many reasons to celebrate these wins. Beef, which is all about a chaotic feud stemming from a road rage incident, is full of drama. But in real life, the two actors became fast friends.

In fact, during her speech, Wong says that the friendships made during the show “will always be the best thing that came out of Beef.”

She also goes on to thank her ex-husband, Justin Hakuta, saying, “It’s because of you that I’m able to be a working mother.”

During Yeun’s speech, he admits that winning feels different than he imagined it would — in the best way.

“The story I usually tell to myself is one of isolation and separateness. And then you come up here and you have this moment and you can only just think about everyone else,” Yeun says, adding with a laugh, “And that feels like the plot of Frozen.”

These wins are huge for the actors themselves, of course, but that’s also the case for lots of folks watching at home.

“Two Asians won in a row,” one person write in reply to Yeun’s speech. “I may or may not have cried.”

Beef is an incredible show,” another fan writes. “The character development is unlike anything I have seen. I’m so happy she won.”
