Each day, millions of United States military members work hard to keep our country safe, often at the expense of spending time with their own loved ones. That’s why it’s always so wonderful to see a returning serviceman coming home at last.

Over Memorial Day weekend in 2018, Airman Tywan Lawson managed to pull off the surprise of a lifetime for his delighted family members. Tywan had been away from home for five whole years, so when it was finally time to return to his Conway, South Carolina homestead, he knew he wanted to make it special.
Tywan called his friends at the local Conway County Police Department and asked for their assistance in staging a big reunion, and they were more than happy to oblige.

Tyres Knox Nesmith stepped up to help orchestrate the homecoming, going so far as to film the entire event on her cell phone and stream it to Facebook Live.

As Tywan sat in Tyres’ car, you can tell he’s nervous and excited to see his family at long last. He’s also careful not to spoil their hard work, even ducking down low when he spots his little brother zooming down the neighborhood streets on his dirtbike.

Two uniformed police officers are speaking to Tywan’s family outside of their home, and when the time is right, Tyres drives the Airman up and he slips out onto the sidewalk.

As soon as his family spots him, they start shrieking in joy! His sisters and brothers can’t wait to give him an enormous hug.

His mom is over the moon when she realizes that not only is she not in trouble with the law, but they were actually in on the surprise the entire time.

The family takes turns wrapping Tywan in the hugs he’s probably missed so much over these past years, and they’re all so thankful for the local police for their help.

This surprise had been in the works for over a week, but Tywan’s plane had been delayed several times before it could actually come to fruition.

They end the video stream with a big portrait of the whole gang, including Tyres and the two cops.

As an American flag waves in the background and this family embraces its hard working Airman, it’s impossible not to feel a surge of pride for our country, and for the men and women who fight for it every day.
Please share this video to say “welcome home” to Airman Lawson, and to thank him for his service.
