When Acia Williams agreed to give her boss a kidney it was a truly selfless act.
Acia has worked as a manager in one of Chet Bennett’s beauty salons in Washington, D.C. for the past 8 years. She’s known Chet for more than 20 years and considers him a friend, so when he told her he was on dialysis while waiting for a kidney transplant she didn’t hesitate to step up to help.

It turned out that Acia was a perfect match. The pair underwent a living donor transplant surgery in April 2019, and everything went smoothly. As they recovered together in Chet’s home, he turned to her one day and told her he was giving her the salon! Like many stylists, Acia has always dreamed of opening her own salon, but it never seemed to be a financial possibility.
Thanks to her generous and life-saving gift, Chet handed over the keys to one of his most profitable businesses. In January 2020 they held a big re-opening at the salon, which is now renamed “A New Image by Acia.”

Chet says he gave Acia the salon because she gave him his life back. Although it may seem generous, he thinks it’s a bargain compared to a life spent hooked up to dialysis machines. “This is thank you,” he said. “I can’t begin to thank you enough for you giving me life, but we can start with you making your dream a reality by having your own salon.”
The two friends remain supportive of one another as Acia takes on the challenge of owning her own business. When Chet jokes about taking the salon back, Acia says he’s welcome to it once she gets her kidney back! Clearly their senses of humor are still very much in tact.

Acia didn’t expect any sort of reward for her amazing act of kindness, but it’s so fabulous that Chet was able to reward her nevertheless! If only all acts of karma were this quick.
