Most pet owners leave their pets home alone for a significant part of the day. When an Illinois family’s home was on fire, no one was home except their dog. Someone must have notified the police that the animal was inside. They broke down the door to enter the house to rescue the pet. An officer wearing a body camera entered the house to rescue the dog, but he didn’t have a leash.

The fire was not fully engulfed, but the first floor was filled with smoke. The officer found the dog almost immediately, but the pup wouldn’t go outside. Thinking the dog wanted to show him something, the officer followed the dog through the hallway, past the dining room, and into the kitchen. The dog led the officer right to the rear door, where his leash hung on a hook.
The clever dog led the officer to his leash. The officer quickly realized that the dog was telling him he couldn’t go out without his leash. Once the leash was in place on his collar, the officer was able to lead the dog back out the front door through increasing clouds of smoke.
There were no other animals or people in the home. That the dog stayed calm and didn’t bolt through the front door as soon as it opened is incredible. Most dogs would dart out. He must have understood that the police officer wasn’t an intruder to defend against. The dog knew just what to do.
As the officer exited the front door, he coughed slightly and will receive care when paramedics arrive on the scene. The officer listened to and followed the dog, which was absolutely perfect.
Please share if you think this dog is incredible.
