Meerkats Are Absolutely Baffled By Service Dog At The Zoo

Image shows meerkats at the San Diego Zoo looking at a service dog outside of their enclosure.

On a recent trip to the San Diego Zoo, Kattie Morrow and her service dog, Stella, turned the tables a bit. When they go to the zoo, Stella never fails to attract attention. An Australian Shepherd, Stella, is a floofy and gorgeous dog. Other patrons want to pet her, but that is only part of it.

Stella also draws the attention of the animals at the zoo. They are not accustomed to seeing animals roaming in the “people” area. The most puzzled reaction was from the meerkats, who couldn’t help but stare at the curious sight of the service dog at the zoo.

The meerkats aren’t the only ones interested. The gorilla saw Stella from across its enclosure and sauntered over for a closer inspection. Carrying a stick in its mouth, the large primate came right up to the glass and stared out at Stella. A smaller monkey tried to keep up, climbing across the netting in its enclosure to get a better look. It seemed a little miffed that Stella and Katie kept walking when it ran out of space to follow.

The baby orangutan wanted to play with Stella so bad. It stood at the glass, staring wistfully at the dog. When an adult ambled up, it finally went off to play somewhere else. All the primates at the zoo adored the service dog.

The meerkats took first prize with their reaction to Stella. It took them a little time to get over their shyness, but then curiosity took over. They hesitantly approached the glass. One little fellow stood up on the side of the bowl-shaped sand structure to get a better look.

After the ice was broken, the little critters followed Stella as she moved around outside the glass.
