“What Driving With Theater Kids Sounds Like”

Image shows a couple of theater kids driving and belting out songs from "Wicked: The Musical."

In every high school, there are jocks, band geeks, and theater kids. Jocks are physical, so driving with them can be a rowdy experience. Band geeks don’t know any words, so your car might end up sounding like a beatbox competition. Driving with theater kids is an experience on a whole different level. With or without accompaniment, there will be show tunes. Lots and lots of show tunes.

Dedicated theater kids will continue to belt out songs while driving even after their high school days are over. Such is the case with Jenna Clarke, driving, and her friend, Brody Adams, in the passenger seat. We don’t know who was in the backseat, but several people requested ride-alongs.

Once you fall in love with the theater, show tunes become your life. Soundtracks play in the CD player or from a Spotify connection. If you’re driving next to me, you might hear Hamilton, sung at peak decibel levels. Since I’m not a good singer, you may want to roll up your windows. That’s a habit I got while being the carpool mom for my daughter and her theater friends.

Once the show tune bug bites you, you are infected for life. Just ask Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. He broke out in a spontaneous burst of song during an interview.

Driving with theater kids is always an adventure. Jenna and Brody were singing a tune from Wicked: The Musical. Jenna is fond of most things Disney, so she probably knows all the songs. She and Brody are always singing.
