Evan and Katie Mackin are a pretty typical family… until they’re not. Katie is a teacher, and her school had planned a special event for the end-of-year field day. There was a twist. Teachers entering the race had to wear a blow-up costume. Katie ordered an alien costume and began training.

It was bulky and cumbersome. The costume legs are super short, restricting the length of the runner’s stride. The bulkiness of the suits, combined with the air allowing them to bounce and shift, presents a special challenge to running. The field day race wasn’t enough of a challenge for Katie.
She decided to revive the alien after the teacher’s race day and enter a mini-triathlon. She was diligent about training, hitting all three areas: biking, running, and kayaking. Lots of people are opting into the blow-up costumes. One dad wanted to embarrass his daughter. Others want to entertain their neighbors by having a unicorn perform snow removal. Katie is bringing lots of smiles dressed as an alien.
