Like You’ve Never Seen Before: 5D Art Will Bend Your Mind In All The Right Ways

Image shows an example of what the artist calls 5D art.

The debate about the existence of the 5th dimension remains ongoing. The human eye is only capable of seeing two dimensions. When we perceive depth, it is a trick our brains have developed due to the placement of our eyes. However, none of that explains what we see when we view this 5D art.

There is a lot of scientific mumbo-jumbo we could offer to explain the observable universe, which is four-dimensional. There are three spatial dimensions, and time is the fourth. That boils down to length, width, height, and a timestamp. Oskar Klein explains that the fifth dimension is invisible to humans. He describes it as minuscule and claims that it curls up like a frightened armadillo. Because it curls into itself, we never really see it.

That said, we can appreciate both the simplicity and the complexity of this young artist’s claim of 5D art. Many of us have seen the viral paper plate illusions. One plate is right-side-up while the rest are upside down. When you locate the one right-side-up plate, the rest all become right-side-up. The human eye is a remarkable tool that enables the instantaneous processing of visual signals into wavelengths that our brains can interpret and understand. We may not fully understand what we’re seeing, but it’s cool.

Here is another of Illuzen’s 5D art creations. They are easy to watch, and you can almost get lost in the illusion of staring down a sunlit hallway.

The debate will rage on until string theory and principles of physics catch up. The one thing we can agree on about Illuzens‘s art is that it is captivating. Whether you call it 3D art or 5D art, it stretches the imagination.
