15-Yr-Old Cancer Patient Shares Emotional Moment She Won The Battle

A teen patient cries while celebrating that she's cancer-free.

This cancer patient now has her whole life ahead of her, thanks to her amazing medical team. Elizabeth was in her first year of high school when she got her heartbreaking osteosarcoma diagnosis. However, this 15-year-old is now cancer-free! A video from Little Wishes shows her emotional celebration at the hospital amid the cheers of doctors and nurses.

“When I was diagnosed, there were no words to describe how I felt,” said Elizabeth. “I had bad days, but it just made my good days even better.”

15-year-old Elizabeth was overwhelmed with emotions of gratitude for the amazing medical team that cared for her, especially her Child Life Specialist (and Little Wishes Coordinator) Katie.  March is Child Life Month, and many people are not aware of what a child life specialist is: A vital part of the pediatric medical team that provides emotional and educational support to patients and their families.  They ease stress and anxiety by explaining diagnoses and medical procedures, create calm and comfortable environments and are the biggest advocates for children and their families. Little Wishes is proud to have over 60 Child Life Specialists facilitating our program. #littlewishes #childhoodcancer #hope #hospital #childlifespecialist #medicalteam #osteosarcoma

Among those who were there for the patient throughout her cancer battle was her Child Life Specialist, Katie. According to the caption from Little Wishes, this is someone who helps to guide a pediatric patient and their family through the treatment process. It was Katie’s job to make sure that Elizabeth knew what was happening to her body and how her medical team was dealing with it. She was also there to provide moral support to the teen and her family.

What an incredible moment it must have been for Elizabeth to bang that gong! We’re sure that this patient is more than ready to get on with her life now that her cancer is behind her.
