Stumbling across something unexpected like some change on the ground can be fun, but finding a penny can’t compare to what these people managed to find.

There’s even a subreddit dedicated to these unusual discoveries called r/MildlyInteresting. In our opinion, they’re much more fascinating than the name implies! But you can be the judge of that by scrolling through some of our favorite unexpected finds from across social media.

1. “In 1945 my great grandmother wrote her name in a sidewalk. We found it again. She is 93.”

2. “Found Amethyst pieces in a new gravel driveway.”

3. “Found while out deer hunting in the middle of nowhere.”

4. “My mom’s purse was stolen in the 80s at a hiking trailhead. Today someone messaged her that they found it deep in the woods. The leather was all destroyed, but she is getting some cool keepsakes back.”

5. “Just spent so long prying my step grandmother’s locket open and it was 100% worth it.”

6. “This little door I found in the trunk of a tree while walking in Lowell.”

7. “Found a tiny greenhouse in the woods.”

8. “Megalodon teeth I found diving in 90 FSW off the coast of North Carolina.”

9. “It has been family lore that my grandmother had a pet raccoon named Smokey. I didn’t believe it until I recently found photographic evidence. Late 40’s or early 50’s.”

10. “A cast iron cauldron I found buried in my forest.”

11. “You never know what you will find when you pick up a shell at Honeymoon Beach, Florida. Little dude was put safely back in the water.”

12. “Went on a walk, fogged up my glasses, and found this.”

13. “I came in my kitchen to find a lizard using a sponge as a raft in the sink. (I live in New Mexico).”

14. This woman found a message in a bottle from 1926 that was addressed to someone named George Morrow. After she shared it on Facebook, people from across the world helped her find George’s family!

15. “Geologist finds rare formation inside rock that looks exactly like Cookie Monster on Sesame Street.”

We may not always notice, but the world we live in is packed full of wonders. It just goes to show that we could all benefit from keeping our eyes open and expecting the unexpected!
