10 Inspiring Dumbledore Quotes In Honor Of The Late Michael Gambon

A two-photo collage. The first shows a close up of actor Michael Gambon smiling. The second photo shows Gambon as Dumbledore in "Harry Potter." He looks deep in thought as he holds his wand to his forehead.

Actor Michael Gambon, who made a name for himself in a variety of movies and shows over the course of his career, passed away on Thursday, September 28 after a bout of pneumonia, a publicist announced on behalf of his family. They also shared that he “died peacefully in hospital.” Fans of the talented actor have taken to social media to express how much his work has meant to them over the years.

This includes, of course, his time playing Professor Albus Dumbledore in the “Harry Potter” movies, based on the books by J. K. Rowling. This beloved character is know for his inspiring, powerful quotes, so I’ve gathered 10 of my favorites for you to enjoy below.

1. “It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.” — Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

2. “It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” — Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

3. “It is important to fight and fight again, and keep fighting, for only then can evil be kept at bay though never quite eradicated.” — Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

4. “Youth cannot know how age thinks and feels, but old men are guilty if they forget what it was to be young.” — Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

5. “Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it.” — Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

6. “Numbing the pain for a while will make it worse when you finally feel it.” — Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

7. “Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?” — Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

8. “Indifference and neglect often do much more damage than outright dislike.” — Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

9. “We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.” — Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

10. “You think the dead we loved truly ever leave us? You think that we don’t recall them more clearly in times of great trouble?” — Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Although Gambon is no longer with us, he will continue to live on not only in his films, but in the hearts and minds of those who cared about him. What a beautiful thought, and one that the character of Dumbledore himself shared.
