Houston surgeon Dr. Stephen Kimmel got a call early Saturday morning that needed his expertise. A young man was suffering from a testicular torsion and in tremendous pain. Kimmel left his home just as flood waters were beginning to lap against his house and he headed to the hospital.

Kimmel only made it so far before flood waters made it impossible to continue on. Then he ran into a volunteer firemen with a canoe.
Together, the fireman and Kimmel paddled their way toward the hospital until an obstruction forced the doctor out into the water. He waded through the waist deep muck for almost a mile before finally arriving at the hospital.
“Sometimes you have to do whatever it takes,” Dr. Kimmel said in a press release. “This young man’s life would have been changed for the worse forever if we hadn’t been able to perform surgery when we did. In the end, it all turned out very well.”

Kimmel could have easily turned back when the going got tough, but he had job to do. We should all remember his example when the time comes for us to press on through.
