Boy Who Cares For Terminally Ill Brother Gets Biggest Surprise From Radio Station.

It’s a big brother’s job to protect, care for, and love his younger siblings. But 11-year-old Alize of Christchurch, New Zealand, goes above and beyond for his baby brother.

Alize is the oldest of three. Andre is nearly four years old, and by far needs the most help and attention. Because of a severe brain injury, the little boy is blind, non-verbal, and cannot walk. He’s also terminally ill. But he’s had a guardian angel on his side from day one.

Alize has always been a huge help when it comes to caring for Andre. And it isn’t always easy. Hospital visits are frequent, bringing with them the fear of loss and grief. The family already lost Andre’s twin, Ace.

But he’s never let anything get in the way of giving Andre the best possible life. Alize sings to Andre, comforts him when he can’t sleep, takes him for walks, plays with him – anything to keep him smiling.

That’s why Alize’s grandma, Vicky, nominated him as one of More FM’s “Jingle Bail kids.” The radio station sends sick and special needs children from New Zealand on a special group trip to Australia’s Gold Coast. They accept fantastic big brothers, too.

Alize’s mom caught the big moment on camera. Her son had no idea of the surprise awaiting him as he sat in the family car, listening to the radio. Then, he heard Vicky’s name – and her voice.

Vicky had called into the station to share the story of her incredible grandson, and why he deserved to be treated. As his grandma called him a hero and described all the wonderful things he does for his brother, Alize couldn’t help but break down. But this time, he didn’t have to be the strong one. His baby sister had him covered.

After taking on so much responsibility, Alize will finally get a chance to kick back, enjoy himself, and just be a kid, though we know he’ll never regret giving Andre a wonderful life. Hero, indeed!
