dad sings duet with son in car

A viral video of father and son singing duo is quickly touching the hearts of people across the world. Simon “Mac”McDermott, 40, records he and his father, Ted, driving around Blackburn singing their hearts out to “Quando, Quando, Quango”. What makes this video so heartwarming and special is that 79-year-old Ted has Alzheimer’s disease and the one thing that will “bring him back” is music.

In 2013, Ted McDermott was diagnosed with dementia. He was an entertainer his entire life, performing across England in pubs and clubs. Unfortunately, over the last few years, the beautiful singer’s memory began to deteriorate. Ted is finding it harder and harder to recognize loved ones and sometimes has angry outbursts.

His son Simon loves singing with him because those are the special moments when his father is fully present.

“Now when we’ve got him singing again he’s back in the room,”Simon says. “It’s these moments that we treasure.â€

Simon is hoping to post more videos of Ted who recently celebrated his 80th birthday. He even wants to perform alongside a band. Ted has been nicknamed earned the nicknamed “The Songaminute Man” because of the many tracks he knows off by heart.
