Ice skating is fun, but with so much at stake during a competition, things can get pretty serious. For example, the US Figure Skating National Showcase features talented people of all ages from all across the country. But as serious as that competition may sound, you’d be surprised by some of the categories, like Comedic Impressions. But that’s not the one that Katrina Suemnig went viral over… she entered the Open Inflatable category!

This “chicken jockey” skater took inspiration from the popular video game Minecraft. More specifically, the movie where this reference is made. But the fact that she wore a chicken inflatable while performing isn’t the only reason her performance is so memorable. She also chose quite an iconic song to pair with her moves. Check it out for yourself in the viral video below!

10-Year-Old Ice Skater Wows the Crowd with her Chicken Jockey Inspired Performance
“Why am I getting scared every time she’s letting go of the thingy as if she’s going to fall off?” someone asked, highlighting the 10-year-old girl’s skills. Other impressed commenters added, “Figure skater dressed as chicken jockey from Minecraft with the song of the best moment in the Shrek franchise, what a time to be alive,” and “Jokes aside, figure skating in an inflatable costume has gotta be hard.”
That last commenter is certainly correct! Learning how to skillfully skate while wearing an inflatable costume was far from easy. That said, Katrina certainly mastered this unusual skill. In fact, she went on to earn both a bronze and a gold in the competition! What Katrina got out of the competition, however, goes beyond medals.
“It feels weird to be in an inflatable chicken on ice, but it was actually really fun,” Katrina said. “I’m really glad that I made a lot of people happy. I’m just excited that I can do that to people.”
