Young Cancer Survivor’s Kindness During Chance Encounter Leads To $100k Donation From Luke Combs

A young cancer survivor learned that kindness always comes back around after a chance encounter with a stranger ended with a $100,000 donation from country music star Luke Combs.

A 12-year-old named Jocelyn unknowingly ran into social media influencer Samuel Weidenhofer one day. Samuel, who is a mental wellness and kindness advocate, regularly records videos where he asks strangers for help. When they do, he returns the favor with a huge surprise.

When he approached Jocelyn’s family, he said he had lost his wallet, and he wondered if they could spare “a few dollars.” Jocelyn smiled and handed Samuel some of her own money.

“Are you sure? he asked. “I might be able to get a fast car with that.”

Samuel asked Jocelyn why she helped him, and she admitted that surviving childhood cancer makes her want to “give back to other people.”

Jocelyn went on to explain that she has been raising money for cancer research through “lemonade stands, hot cocoa stands, and other fundraisers.” And she astonishingly raised “well over $100k.”

After listening to the young cancer survivor’s heartwarming story, Samuel gave her and her parents tickets and backstage passes to a Luke Combs concert.

Young Survior’s Story Leads Luke Combs To Match Her Cancer Research Donations

When Luke Combs met Jocelyn that night, he was moved by her selfless work. So during his set, he paused and shared her story with the audience. Then he announced plans to match her donations.

“She raised $100k at a lemonade stand for cancer research. I’m gonna match that. I’m gonna double that,” he said.

He made the moment even more magical by following with Jocelyn’s “favorite song,” Fast Car.

“Thank you [Luke Combs] for taking the time out of your big night and very busy schedule to put a never-ending smile on Jocelyn’s face,” Jocelyn’s family wrote in an Instagram post after the big event. “She’s still on cloud 9 from Saturday night! Jocelyn has always been a fan of yours but your generosity, kind heart, and humbled nature has made her a super fan (you’ve surpassed GnR🥀😉).”
