You’d Never Imagine Just How Peaceful This Massive Work Of Art Sounds

Top-down view of people sitting around a large basin with water. Man bowls float around on the water

Part of what makes art so fascinating is that it can take on countless forms. Sure, there’s a lot of debate around modern art. (People still can’t stop talking about that one exhibit with the banana taped to a wall.) But a new piece found at the Bourse de Commerce in Paris has people talking for the very best reasons. Created by French artist Céleste Boursier-Mougeno, this unique artwork makes use of a number of bowls.

But these bowls haven’t been placed on a counter or even glued to a canvas. Instead, these bowls have been placed in a basin full of water. This basin is 18 meters (nearly 60 feet) in diameter. When visitors gather around to admire this piece, what they see is only part of the fun. It’s what they hear that makes this work of art oh-so-special. Experience it for yourself in the viral video below.

“The fact that even removing a single bowl would change the tune forever… No matter how small. It all matters,” a thoughtful person pointed out in the comments. Others added, “I love this so much, instant meditation vibes for me” and “I could spend HOURS here with a good book.”

Clever French Artist Creates One-of-a-Kind Artwork with Bowls and Water

This clever artwork is called clinamen. According to the museum’s website, this name is in reference to Epicurean physics. More specifically, this term refers to the random motion that atoms make. Like the motion of these atoms, the movement of these bowls is unique and unpredictable. In other words, no matter how many videos you watch or how many times you visit in person, each and every moment spent with this artwork is unlike any before it. How cool is that!?
