Woman’s Trendy Upcycled Shirt Is A Sweet Homemade Memento Of Her Grandfather!

In November 2020, Issy Spurway lost her grandfather to a stroke. His death was unexpected and took the family by surprise. Issy had been particularly affected by the loss. Looking for a way to keep her memories of him alive, Issy looked into her grandpa’s closet and had a brilliant idea. She would start upcycling her grandpa’s old clothes to create a new wardrobe for herself. Now, whenever she wears one of the upcycled garments, it’s like getting a hug from her grandpa!

Not everyone can sew like Issy. Realizing this fact, Issy breaks down her projects on TikTok into manageable portions. She shows the entire transformation by breaking it down into easy steps. The first video in a set shows the beginning-to-end process. As watchers ask questions or request clarification, she adds videos to detail those specific areas of the project. Issy models her own designs on her TikTok channel, “handmade.byissy.” For instance, the item we are featuring today currently has five videos (the first, and four additional segments to answer questions).

When Issy begins a video tutorial, she shows viewers the beginning look. In this feature, she starts with a plaid-patterned men’s button-down shirt that was originally her grandpa’s.

From simple to chic, with nothing except scissors, a sewing machine, and a little creativity! Issy has a closet full of upcycled clothing. She has completed more than 100 projects and doesn’t plan to give up the hobby. What began as a quarantine-inspired hobby has developed into a mainstay craft for Issy.

Since beginning her upcycling journey, Issy has become a student, studying textile design. While completing her degree, she is working at an upholstery company located in Oxford. We think Issy is a pretty ingenious young lady with a great future ahead of her!
