It’s difficult to throw a big birthday party these days, but with the right people on your guest list anything is possible!
Julia Reader of Toronto, Canada has been spending the COVID-19 quarantine period at home with her 3-year-old son, Wolfgang. Every Friday the toddler wakes up filled with excitement because that’s they day the sanitation workers arrive on his street.
“So throughout Covid, here in a Toronto, my son Wolfgang’s highlight has been waiting for DJ and Drew to pick up the garbage on Fridays,” Julia told Some Good News. “They always take time to chat to him and check out his latest toy garbage truck, have the occasional popsicle and happy dance to follow. They call themselves his Wolfpack.”
As his 3rd birthday drew closer, Julia explained to the child that they wouldn’t be able to have a party with a lot of people this year. She told him he could pick just two friends to come over for cake and ice cream. Without a moment’s hesitation Wolfy named the friends he wanted to celebrate with: DJ and Drew!
“We laughed it off, especially knowing his bday is on a Wednesday,” said Julia. A family member did mention Wolfy’s birthday to DJ and Drew, but they doubted anything would come of it. Boy, were they wrong. The Wolfpack did not disappoint.
Three weeks later on Wolfy’s birthday Drew arrived with a whole crew of fellow sanitation workers from Green For Life Environmental. Sadly DJ was on vacation and couldn’t attend, but Wolfy was delighted to see four big green garbage trucks blaring the horns as they drove past his house.
“Wolfy was speechless. The boys came bearing gifts, howling out their windows and took time to play with Wolfy. He even got to honk the horn! Does it get any better!?”
Julia says she has “mad respect” for all of the essential workers out there, but she is overwhelmed that these young men made time on their day off to make her son smile. Way to go, guys!
