You can never really know when you’ll fall in love. For two widows at Brookdale Folsom, a senior living facility in California, their love came later in life — though it certainly wasn’t the first time. Seventy-six-year-old Rob Trueax was married for 40 years before he met his new sweetheart, 84-year-old Faye Guerrero. Although her death “left a hollow spot,” he was open to the idea of finding another partner in life one day.

Faye, on the other hand, was sure she would never find anyone else after her husband died years ago. But that quickly changed when she and Rob met in the dining hall of Brookdale Folsom. Here, the two felt an immediate connection, spending lots of time chatting.
“We started eating at our own table, just the two of us, to give us an opportunity to talk a lot,” Rob explains.
“I really liked him,” Faye says, later adding, “I was never interested in getting married again, but he just changed my mind.”

Their relationship bloomed into something beautiful in a matter of weeks. In fact, in only took Rob five weeks to propose on New Year’s Day. As soon as Faye said “yes,” the groom-to-be started making plans.
“I figure at our age, we can’t waste any time,” Rob says, making Faye laugh.
He began by drawing a layout for what their big day could look like. This included them saying “I do” in front of a fireplace just a few steps away from where they first met.
“It’s our first Brookdale wedding,” Kristian Bie, the facility’s resident program director says. “It just shows people there is a lot of hope, reconnecting with people or connecting with people.”
As a way to honor two of the biggest loves in her life, Kristian will wear both the diamond wedding band her first husband gave her as well as her new wedding band from Rob.
The wedding, which took place near the end of March, included friends, family, and fellow residents. Based on the sweet photo above of Rob and Faye, who look stunning in their wedding outfits, the couple’s big day went perfectly!
“If somebody is open to it,” Faye says of falling in love as a widow, “even if they are not planning on it, it’s a pleasant surprise.”
