“Why Would You Name Your Son After Your Stepdad?” A Bride’s Heartwarming Answer

When a woman decided to name her first son after her stepfather, she had a flood of people ask why. Her response was priceless.

Social media influencer Chloe Benton is a mother of two—daughter Hattie and son John Witt. John was born in December of 2023 and given the same name as Chloe’s stepdad for one simple and heartfelt reason. He chose to love and raise her as his own.

Chloe recently posted a video to her TikTok page that shared a special moment she had with John Witt Senior on her wedding day to showcase the special relationship they have. In it, she stands as a “stunning” bride giving a first look to her stepdad.

“When someone asks, ‘Why would you name your son after your stepdad?” reads the initial caption.

When John turns to see Chloe, she takes his breath away. He’s clearly choked up seeing his little girl all grown up and ready to say, “I do.” Then, as he takes in the moment, Chloe hands John a letter.

“A dad isn’t defined as the man who makes the child, but rather the man who extends his hands and time to help with the child’s raising and his heart to love the child through anything,” says the letter. “Blood doesn’t always make you a dad. Being a dad comes from the heart. Thanks for choosing to be my dad.”

As the proud stepdad reads the note from the bride, he cries sentimental tears and then moves in to hold her close.

“This is why,” reads the caption, which is an answer to Chloe’s question.

“Stepdads are heroes,” a follower commented. “Often not given the credit they deserve.”
