When you’re a little kid, you always want to surprise your parents. Although that goal wears off over time, it never really goes away. Kassidy Richardson’s urge to surprise her dad hit when she got life-changing news. She roped in her husband, Jake, and the setup began. They decided they would make her dad a late birthday present.

Kassidy and Jake prepared a simple white shoe box. The couple handed it to her dad, telling him it was a late birthday present. He sighed because he thought it might be a puppy. That confused us because who doesn’t want a puppy? As he cautiously opened the box, he briefly stared at the contents before stumbling backward.
You can hear his wife in the background, clearly concerned, ask, “What is it?” Kassidy’s dad was slowly working his way over to a stone wall where he could sit. Kassidy tells him to “show mom” as her mother rushes toward her now-sitting dad.
Kassidy’s mom reaches her husband. He weakly holds the box for her to look at its contents. She opens the lid, revealing a strip of paper. Pulling it from the box and immediately recognizing the ultrasound printout, she turns to Kassidy and Jake. “Is it yours?” When they answer yes, the newly minted grandma-to-be is all smiles, jumps for joy and squeals.
While Kassidy’s mom is bouncing around, clearly overjoyed about this news, her dad remains seated with his face in his hands. You have to wonder if he’s over there thinking, “Maybe a puppy wouldn’t have been so bad…”
Standing up and walking toward his daughter, Kassidy’s dad is crying, clearly appreciating his birthday present.
