One of the most beautiful things about parenthood is passing your passions down to your children. For the sibling members of Oregon-based band We Three, it’s all about following in Mom and Dad’s footsteps.
Joshua, Bethany, and Manny’s father had a band with his siblings growing up, and the kids were inspired to do the same. “Before we could even walk, we were immersed in music,” Bethany explained on “America’s Got Talent.” While their dad’s band toured, Mom controlled the soundboard and did tech for the shows. When they welcomed three little ones into the world, the proud parents made sure that they grew up surrounded by amazing music.

Both parents helped the kids learn how to play instruments to pass down the tradition, and since there were three of them, the siblings decided that they’d start a family band of their own. Nothing could’ve made their supportive parents prouder.

But in 2015, tragedy struck. Their mom started feeling severe back pain, so she went to get it checked out. That’s when they found large cancerous masses all over her body. She was diagnosed with Stage 4 carcinoma cancer.

Four months later, she was gone. Reeling from their loss, the family vowed to stay as close as possible. They did everything together in an effort to cope with the heartbreaking path down which life had led them.

“She was so loved,” Bethany continued. And almost as if Mom was sending them a message, the kids found old journal entries that she’d written about losing her own mother. “It’s kind of like we got to have one last conversation with her,” Manny said.

After that, they decided to write a song about their incredible mom from her perspective and perform it during their “America’s Got Talent” audition two years later. When they played the beautiful tribute, the judges couldn’t help but cry.
