A veteran in Indianola, Iowa, is bringing the spirit of Christmas to life in his neighborhood, one house at a time. 74-year-old John Reichart decided to transform his street into a festive wonderland of twinkling lights and cheerful displays! Of course, this veteran wasn’t just inspired by his love for Christmas. John wanted to make the holidays extra bright for his wife, Joan. These two have been married for 53 years, but the past four have been difficult since Joan was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. However, her husband has been trying his best to create special moments for her to hold onto.

“I’d do anything to make her happy,” he told CBS.

This neighborhood-wide Christmas extravaganza isn’t a one-time project for the veteran. John says that he plans to do the same thing for his wife every year for as long as he’s able to.

“As long as she’s OK,” he explained. “And even if she would pass, I’m gonna do it in her memory as long as I can do it.”

Everyone loves these Christmas decorations!

Joan isn’t the only one who’s been enjoying the beautiful decorations her husband set up all along their street. Other people on the block appreciate the holiday cheer that John has brought to their homes. Even non-residents have been dropping by to see the veteran’s Christmas displays!

John’s neighbors have decided to do something sweet for him in return. This holiday season, they arranged for a P.O. box so that people could send Christmas cards for the veteran to read to his spouse!
