Theme Park tourism is big business, particularly in the state of Florida. Millions of people visit the Walt Disney Resort and Universal Orlando Resort every year. They travel for the adventure, the food, the hotels, and the theme park experiences. To keep guests returning year after year, the parks have to continually upgrade and reinvent themselves. According to the Orlando Business Journal, Universal Orlando will begin “construction activity” for a new themed area within the Island of Adventure. However, to make room for something new, Universal had to bid farewell to its older attractions.

The Universal Orlando Development Will Begin Soon
Universal Orlando provided a statement to OBJ confirming the news.
“In the coming months, there will be construction activity in Lost Continent as part of site planning to ensure the area is ready for any future developments,” Director of Public Relations Kristen Smith shared in an emailed statement.
Per OBJ, Universal Orlando applied for a building permit on September 10. They hope to demolish nearly five acres at Islands of Adventure. The park closed both Poseidon’s Fury and The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad, presumably to make room for the new development.
No word yet on what Universal Orlando has in mind, but adding Harry Potter-themed attractions proved a huge success for the park. The opening of Epic Universe this past May, with areas like Super Nintendo World and Dark Universe, was a slam dunk for Universal. According to OBJ, sites like Orlando Park Stop think the new development could follow this lead.
“When Super Nintendo World was being developed for the Universal Orlando Resort, there were rumors of Nintendo lands opening in each of the theme parks. While the original area would feature attractions set in the Mushroom Kingdom and Donkey Kong Country, additional lands based on Pokemon and the Legend of Zelda were rumored to be coming later,” the site shares.
This all sounds good to us. Will you travel to Universal Orlando to check out the new attractions?
