Uma Thurman Shares Why She Walked Away From Action Movies Following The Success of “Kill Bill”

Quentin Tarantino helped launch Uma Thurman’s career in 1994’s Pulp Fiction. She slayed alongside John Travolta, and less than a decade later, Quentin tapped her again for a new role. She became The Bride in the Kill Bill franchise, a cult classic that helped solidify her as a star. But after two back-to-back successful action films, Uma decided the genre just wasn’t for her. As a mom of two young children, Maya and Levon, whom she shares with Ethan Hawke, Uma took a step back. She explained her reasoning in a recent interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“I never really followed ‘Kill Bill’ up with action because I didn’t kind of want to be in a whole bunch of ‘B’ action movies,” she said.

Uma Thurman Stayed Away From Action Movies For A Long Time

Uma Thurman told Jimmy her decision was calculated.

“When you do ‘Kill Bill,’ you never stop hearing about, you know, it’s like, ‘Oh, got to be very careful about what I do next.’ So I did other stuff,” she explained.

After decades away from the action genre, Uma Thurman will star alongside Charlize Theron as the villain in The Old Guard 2. She told Jimmy it was exciting but nerve-wracking.

“Oh, if only I could have trained,” she joked. “I came on to do it kind of at the end. So I had no training. I was like, ‘Oh yeah, a sword. I think I hold it like this.'”

Fans can’t wait to see Uma in The Old Guard 2.

“I love Charlize Theron, but make no mistake, I will be rooting for Uma Thurman in that sword fight! It gives me Uma vs. Lucy Liu flashbacks from ‘Kill Bill Vol 1.’ Uma is one of the most underrated actresses of all time. She doesn’t get nearly enough credit for why ‘Pulp Fiction’ and ‘Kill Bill’ were so good,” a fan shared.
