Barber Kneels On Ground By Child With Autism, Then Gives Specialized Haircut That’s Touching The World.

Parenting is never easy, but– as we’ve told you before— parenting a child on the autism spectrum comes with a unique set difficulties. For the parents of a boy with autism named Mason, one such difficulty was something other people consider a mundane task: getting a haircut.

Back in 2015, a barber named James Williams posted about Mason. He said he had been trying to cut Mason’s hair for a month, but the scissors frightened the child to the point that he’d run away every time. Finally, James found he was able to cut Mason’s hair by lying on the floor beside him.

The photo of James cutting Mason’s hair quickly went viral, and James became the recipient of an onslaught of messages from parents of children with autism, all thanking James for his kindness and asking him to cut their child’s hair.

James was inspired by his interaction with Mason– and the overwhelming response– to create the Autism Barbers Assemble (ABA), a group of barbers in the UK committed to helping “children on the autism spectrum get past the fear of a haircut.”

Now, James is going viral once again due to the work of the ABA captured in the video below. In the video, James cuts the hair of a boy named Ethan. Ethan has autism and is non-verbal, but– with the help of some chocolate– James was able to give Ethan an anxiety-free haircut!
