UFO Sighting? Drivers Spot The Strangest Vehicle They’ve Ever Seen On The Road

Image shows the UFO car when it rolled out of the garage for a test flight before hitting the open road.

Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) have captured the world’s attention since long before the Roswell crash in 1947. Roswell brought the phenomenon to the forefront, but there was already a buzz below the surface. The denizens of conspiracy theorists are always abuzz with the latest sighting. For UFO enthusiast Steve Anderson, the hobby inspired him to create a UFO car.

Steve built his UFO car in Indiana. Steve wanted to take his craft to the 2024 UFO Festival in Roswell, New Mexico. That meant driving the unique vehicle through several states along the way. To say that he turned a few heads would be an understatement.

Not only were other travelers interested in the UFO car, but law enforcement officers pulled Steve over numerous times during his trip. The sheriff’s officers in Crawford County, Missouri, had a fun time checking out Steve’s innovative ride.

What makes the sight even better is Steve’s choice of eyewear. He wears a pair of dark, tear-drop-shaped glasses that resemble the eyes of aliens. He has been known to travel with a suspiciously green, bulbous-headed co-pilot.

How The UFO Car Came To Be

The UFO car uses an old Geo Metro that Steve and a friend converted. Steve is a mechanic by trade, so the conversion was within his area of expertise and suited his eccentric personality. The vehicle has a 3-cylinder gasoline engine that achieves approximately 50 miles per gallon. That’s pretty good for a sewing machine!

It took Steve around eight months to build the UFO car and roll it out of the garage. Having owned a Geo Metro back in the day, I can attest that if you pedaled fast while going downhill, the car could reach 60 miles per hour.

Steve has been driving the UFO car around since at least 2014. When a reporter at WTHR News asked him why, Steve responded, “It’s boring to be an adult. I wanna have fun. And I make myself have fun!”

You can watch a YouTube video about Steve’s “Close Encounters” with law enforcement in three different states. This second YouTube video explains how the car went from concept to cross-country travel.

The UFO Festival in Roswell is an annual event that happens over the July 4th weekend. If you start planning now, you can make it to the 2026 festival, where you might see Steve in his UFO car, although he doesn’t go every year.
