23 Senior Dogs With A New Leash On Life Take Flight To Their Furrever Homes.

Did you know that November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month?

When people go to the animal shelter in search of a new forever friend, they often overlook some of the more mature dogs, simply because they’re old. Experienced pet owners know, however, that there are a plenty of benefits to adopting an older dog – and not having to potty train a puppy is just one of them!

Senior adoptions are often successful because you know what you’re going to get from the start. You can find the perfect dog to match your energy level and lifestyle, while also giving a senior dog a loving home in which to spend their Golden Years.

Sadly, senior dogs have an adoption rate of just 25 percent compared to 60 percent for puppies. Most of these animals are in the shelter through no fault of their own; their owners simply passed away or can no longer care of them.

In honor of Adopt a Senior Pet Month, a nonprofit named Pet Rescue Pilots helped airlift 23 of these adorable seniors from overcrowded shelters in Los Angeles, California to Eugene, Oregon, where they’ll be matched with foster families and forever homes!

Thanks to a grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization, all of the expenses for this lifesaving flight were covered! The organization has donated $3.8 million in grants to help senior dogs find homes. Considering the fact that Pet Rescue Pilots have made 125 lifesaving flights to date, this partnership seems like the perfect match.

“Many senior dogs from rural California shelters are enjoying their golden years in loving homes thanks to the wonderful work of Pet Rescue Pilots and their rescue network,” stated Lisa Lunghofer, executive director of Grey Muzzle Organization.

Pet Rescue Pilots used this first ever “Seniors are Golden” flight to celebrate a big milestone for their organization: This flight marks the 2,500th passenger they’ve whisked away to start their new lives!

On November 5th, all 23 senior dogs (ages 7 years and older) flew 856 miles so they can start their very own “happily ever afters.”

What a beautiful new “leash” on life for these deserving older dogs. Thank you to all of the nonprofits that made this milestone flight happen!
