Elementary Principal Hatches Sweetest Plan To Ensure Every Student Gets A Bedtime Story.

Dr. Belinda George knows an educator’s work continues well after the school day ends. Belinda is the principal at Homer Drive Elementary in Beaumont, Texas, and she’s started a new tradition at the school called “Tucked-In Tuesdays.”

Every Tuesday at 7:30 pm, Belinda puts on her pajamas, settles in in front of her iPhone, and reads a bedtime story to her students on Facebook live.

The idea is simple: she wants kids to get excited about reading outside the classroom, and she wants them to feel loved.

“Anything I can do to build relationships,” she said. “If a child feels loved they will try. There’s no science about it.”

Students and parents alike love the tradition. Belinda encourages parents to tune in with their kids to make storytime a family ritual.

Her videos have been viewed thousands of times and Belinda has already seen literacy improving among her students, but to her, it’s all about making sure no child has to go to sleep without a bedtime story.

“I don’t have children of my own, so i love these kids with all my heart,” she said.

What a special principal!
