Tim Allen Reveals The Strange Side Effect He’s Experienced From ‘Toy Story’

Tim All Buzz Lightyear

When the first Toy Story movie premiered in 1995, no one could have anticipated how popular the franchise would become. Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, Hamm, Slinky Dog, and all of their friends are part of the hearts and souls of multiple generations. Tim Allen took on the role of Buzz Lightyear, and for more than 30 years, he’s voiced the iconic character. That seems like the most incredible job ever, right? Well, for Tim Allen, his Toy Story fame came with a strange consequence.

Tim Allen Said Buzz Lightyear Made it Impossible for Him to Speak in Public

During a June 10, 2026, SiriusXM interview, Tim Allen joked about Buzz Lightyear and how the character changed his life in an unexpected way. He said that his voice has become so recognizable as Buzz, even when people don’t recognize his face, they 100% know it’s him. Tim and his wife will go to play the Steelers, and he’s on a virtual gag order.

“She’ll go, ‘Shut up. If you want something to eat, whisper to me. I’ll go get it,’” Tim explained.

He added another funny story about seeing a production of The Wiz in Chicago. Once again, his wife told him not to talk, but somehow the women behind him caught a few words. As Tim got up to walk away, one said, “’Tom, we just love you in ‘Toy Story,’” Tim laughed, realizing they had him confused with his co-star, Tom Hanks.

Tom was sitting next to Tim in the interview and joked, “I love that serendipity.”

Toy Story 5 premieres nationwide on June 19, 2026. It features Jessie as the main story arc and a new Taylor Swift song. It sounds like a must-see to us.
