No matter if you already have plans this weekend, there’s an event taking place that you might want to add to your calendar! Each year, the Orionoid meteor shower puts on a brilliant show in the October sky, and this is one you won’t want to miss. These showers are active between September 26 to November 22, but the peak occurs on October 20 and 21. In fact, with viewing conditions fairly favorable, we can expect about 20 or 30 visible meteors per hour!

These spectacular views are produced from the Earth passing through debris, ice, and dust left by Halley’s Comet. For the best views, it’s recommended to find the darkest place possible to lean back and look up at the sky. Your eyes will need about 30 minutes to adjust to the darkness but, once they do, you’ll have a better chance at viewing this stunning event — the best viewing time is between midnight and dawn!
