Reginald Bess may be this North Carolina high school team’s basketball coach, but his five-year-old son Christopher is their biggest inspiration. Also known as Coach CB and ‘Lil Coach Bess, this small boy is the best assistant basketball coach in Edgecombe County. He’s always delivering fantastic pep talks to the Tarboro High School Vikings.
“When I say I coach my whole butt off, I say I coach my whole butt off! When I coach my whole butt off, we all play our whole butts off,” said ‘Lil Coach Bess, according to Fox News.
According to Coach Reginald, the high school basketball players are big fans of Christopher Bess and his assistant coaching style.
“They love him. They embrace him. Sometimes I think they listen to him more and they listen to me,” the proud father said. “But it’s just amazing to see high school guys pretty much gather around him. He’s talking to them on the sideline telling them keep their head up.”
A Tarboro Vikings game is truly a family affair. While Reginald and Christopher Bess coach from the sidelines, the little boy’s older brother is on the court. Also named Reginald, ‘Lil Coach Bess’s sibling is a high school freshman. Although he has quite a few years on the small child, he’s not above taking orders from his younger brother.
“He loves coaching his brother,” Coach Reginald told ABC 11, laughing. “He tells his brother when he gets home, ‘Reg, you should have done this, Reg you should have done that.’ You know when Christopher’s real serious with him, he will call him, ‘Now Reginald Eugene Bess II,’ and that’s when he actually means business for sure!”
We don’t know what the future holds for Christopher Bess, aka ‘Lil Coach Bess, but we’re pretty sure this kid is going places!
