“The Wire” Actor’s Death Came After A Long Health Battle
Before his death, Charley Scalies told Chesapeake Bay Magazine his character, Horseface Pakusa, in The Wire, was the actor’s favorite.
“As with all the other characters I’ve been blessed to portray, Horseface lives inside of me,” he said. “I invite him out to play as needed.”
In addition to starring in The Wire, Charlie also appeared in The Sopranos and has numerous other stage and screen credits. Per his obituary, Charley and his wife of 62 years, Angeline Scalies, shared five children.
“Charley emphasized the importance of family, stating that loving their mother, spending quality time, and teaching respect and hard work were key elements of fatherhood. He believed that a father’s role is to guide children toward self-sufficiency. His wife, children, and grandchildren will miss his stories but will keep him in their hearts forever,” his obituary reads.
Fans and friends shared condolences with The Wire actor’s family on Facebook following his death.
“What a strong bond you two have. I’m so sorry for your loss. I know he’s still gonna be watching over you. Hugs,” a friend wrote.
“So very sorry. He truly was a wonderful, loving man. He will be missed dearly. His baby girl, you will always be,” another message said.
The family asked for donations to the Greater Pennsylvania Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
