Have you ever been to a play where everything goes wrong? Where actors drop lines, the set falls apart, a performer even passes out? Even if you have, I’d bet you’ve never been to one where all of this (and more) happens on purpose. But that’s exactly what you get with Mischief Theatre’s The Play That Goes Wrong.

The Play That Goes Wrong— written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields– pretends to be a terrible whodunit produced by a low-budged theatre company, featuring a first-timer director and amateur actors. In reality, it’s a hit play, performed in London’s Duchess Theatre in the West End (the British equivalent of Broadway).
The play is absolutely hilarious. It’s goofy, awkward, and it only gets more elaborate as it goes on! In the video below, the first few minutes of the play are performed at the Royal Variety Performance, a televised charity event in the United Kingdom. The event is attended by senior members of the British Royal Family, usually including the reigning monarch!
Lucky for you, you don’t have to be a monarch to enjoy the hilarious performance! Check it out below and prepare to laugh!
