Evanna Lynch was just another fan of the wizarding novels, but the books were truly an inspiration to her life battles. Evanna had been battling anorexia nervosa since she was 11 years old, and was in and out of rehab clinics for 2 years.
However, she found great solace reading the Harry Potter books. She felt especially connected to character Luna Lovegood and admired her ability to embrace her oddities and to never let the judgment of others change who she is.
Evanna wrote to Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling to thank her for writing these incredible books, not expecting any type of response. The two actually ended up exchanging letters for years, and Lynch credits Rowling with helping her recover from her struggles with weight.

After reading about Harry Potter casting calls on fan sites, she decided to audition. With no prior acting experience, Lynch got the role and was praised by casting directors who’ve said she truly embodies the character of Luna.
