Trigger warning for cat lovers: This emotional farewell to a cherished pet of 20 years may cause hearts to melt and tears to flow.
A woman named Suzi recently shared a bittersweet tribute to her late cat, Mickey, on YouTube. Throughout the short video, Suzi lovingly recalls the trajectory of their decades-long relationship: from purchasing Mickey at a local pet store at age 17, to watching him grow into an “old man cat”, and having to say goodbye to her beloved companion.
Suzi describes Mickey as her emotional support through all of life’s ups and downs and credits him with helping her survive some very dark times.
Perhaps the biggest low point that Suzi experienced was the death of “Mama” in 2010. She says that her life changed forever when Mama died, but Mickey was always there to comfort her along the way.
As any pet owner can agree, that kind of devotion doesn’t come along every day.
In addition to Suzi’s touching words to her former cat, a montage of personal photos showcases their unbreakable bond. One shot even captures a distressed looking Suzi being consoled by Mickey; his paw firmly planted on her face.
This adorable pic makes a strong case for the benefits of pet therapy.
Towards the end of the video, Suzi explains that Mickey’s death has been the hardest thing she has dealt with since losing Mama. She thanks Mickey for holding on and awaiting her return before passing away. With a nod to his longevity and original purchase price, Suzi closes by thanking Mickey for 20 amazing years and remarks, “Easily the best $40 dollars I’ve ever spent.”
We cannot imagine how sad it was for Suzi to lose her best friend, but we are glad she gets to look back on the beautiful memories they shared together!
