Luckily for the residents of Creekwood Place Nursing and Rehabilitation in Russellville, Kentucky, Tammy Tinsley does a fantastic job of thinking outside of the box! As their activity director, she regularly comes up with new, fun things for them to do. Last week, for example, she brought in a tank of catfish!
Realizing it had probably been years or even decades since many of their seniors had enjoyed the simple pleasure of fishing, Tammy brainstormed how she could bring the trip to them.
As it turns out, it wasn’t too hard! She contacted Tractor Supply, which agreed to loan her a tank for a day. Then, Kevin Morrow, the facility’s maintenance worker, went to pick up some fish. Once they gathered everyone together, the happy residents went to town!
Tammy’s vision came to life on August 7, and her residents couldn’t have asked for a better time! Each of them took turns hooking and releasing the catfish, which we’re sure brought back fond memories from their youth.
As for the employees at the care home, seeing their charges enjoy themselves was incredibly rewarding. They all agreed: Tammy really outdid herself with this brilliant and creative idea!
“Our residents absolutely loved this and my heart was happy seeing those smiles!” the facility wrote on Facebook. “Thank you to all Creekwood staff for everything you do daily to enrich the lives of others.”
Even in quarantine, these folks are having a wonderful time! It just goes to show that with thoughtful caretakers, living in a nursing home doesn’t have to be lonely or boring. Keep up the great work, Tammy! You rock!
