To get the perfect shot, photographers and videographers develop the skill of noticing even the smallest of details. That said, some of the best photos and videos are the ones you couldn’t prepare for in a million years. Josh Gravley, a photographer and videographer in Southern California, shares his experience with the latter. While out on the water during a visit to Florida, Josh took his camera — and it’s a good thing he did!

He ventured out at night, getting a gorgeous view of the starry sky. Soon enough, however, a vibrant meteor appeared… just in time for creatures below to show off the bioluminescence in the water! The timing could not have been more perfect. See for yourself in the popular video below.
@joshg_photos It took everything in me to not freak out when I saw this meteor cross through my frame. I’m glad I kept my composure and was able to get fish swimming in bioluminescence in the same clip. This video is just a small glimpse of the crazy awesome stuff to see in Central Florida when condtions permit. #ocean #florida #bioluminescence #floridacheck ♬ God‘s promise – daniel.mp3

Timing is Everything When a Meteor and Bioluminescence Result in a Cinematic Moment
If you’re unaware, bioluminescence is the ability of living organisms to create light. This is most often seen in creatures deep within the ocean. But it can also be seen on the surface when algal blooms take place. The result, as the video above shows, is breathtaking streaks of bright blue light.
“This is the definition of magic,” someone in the comment section of the video shares, with another adding, “Omg this is just across the bridge from me!! I’ve never seen the bioluminescence get that bright on camera, so beautiful!!”
