Talk about a rare vintage fashion find! A video on TikTok is allowing us to see a reconstructed beaded Egyptian dress up close. According to the voiceover, the gown is the “earliest surviving example of such a garment,” estimated to be 4,500 years old. Since the netted style of the dress doesn’t provide much coverage, historians think that it may have been intended to be layered on top of another piece of clothing.

When the gown was discovered in a woman’s tomb, the string holding it together was no longer intact. In order to restore the dress, the beads had to be reassembled! However, they were still in their original pattern on the deceased woman’s body, which made things a little easier.
