Those who work in education are unsung heroes. They go to work every day to mold young minds in hopes of making the world a better place. Educators don’t show up every day for the glory or the money, and we are grateful for them. Kirk Moore, the principal at Pauls Valley High School in Oklahoma, recently became the school’s prom king. His students cheered him on in a viral video as he walked to the front of the room, as Hero by Nickelback played.

Kirk Moore is a Hero to Everyone at Pauls Valley High School
On April 7, 2026, Victor Hawkins, a former Pauls Valley High School student, attempted a school shooting. Kirk Moore jumped in, quite literally took a bullet for his students, and thwarted something much worse, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
The students at Pauls Valley High School know just how lucky they are to have a principal like Kirk Moore, so they honored him the best way they knew how—making him their prom king.
Seeing the students cheering for their principal touched a lot of hearts.
“The way they are all cheering and putting the crown on him, you can tell how much he means to them. That is the kind of principle you never forget,” someone wrote.
“What an amazing trajectory this man’s story has taken! He deserves it. I hope I would be brave enough to act courageously—but do any of us know 100% that we wouldn’t lock and freeze at that penultimate moment before gunshots? Well done, Mr Moore!” Another person added.
We love this comment. What Kirk Moore did for those kids will be imprinted in their minds and hearts forever.
“What part of their entire education could possibly rival this one experience. There are few things in life that inspire like an ordinary person who performs an extraordinary act,” they wrote.
