May 28 marks National Hamburger Day in the United States. The hamburger is one of those foods that almost everyone loves. It’s a versatile meal that lets people pile on as many toppings as they’d like and sink their teeth into the juicy goodness. Steak ‘n Shake wants its customers to feel extra special this year on National Hamburger Day. To celebrate, the chain will offer free double steakburgers to everyone, but you’re going to have to work for them.

Steak ‘n Shake Has One Requirement for the Free Steakburger
If you want to cash in on free Steak ‘n Shake, you’ll have to follow the company’s rule. They announced the promotion on X on May 24, 2026.
“Steak ‘n Shake is celebrating National Hamburger Day. On May 28, 2026, wear or show ANY American Flag item (hat, shirt, pin, etc.) and score a FREE Double Steakburger. Valid in-store only. Limit 1 per person. Tag a friend to grab a bite!” The company shared.
That’s a pretty simple request for a double steakburger. As soon as Steak ‘n Shake fans saw the news, they immediately began planning their meals for May 28.
“Definitely going in with a quarter zip,” one fan shared.
Others love the burgers and eat there as often as possible, even when they have to pay full price.
“I’d eat here every day if I could…best onion rings in the business…don’t go to sleep on their double garlic burgers,” one fan wrote.
“My son and I love steak ‘n shake. We eat at the cape coral fl location at least 2 times a month. Great, real food and great prices. Thank you for holding the line on prices and quality. Ps,outstanding staff,” another person added.
