Ben, who currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee, was born with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, a condition that has him using a wheelchair. He’s faced many challenges because of this, but he’s always found hope through them all, especially with the help and comfort of music.
In fact, he’s a Southern Gospel singer and a vocal coach. Recently, however, Ben decided to take his powerful voice and his message to a much larger stage… the one on “America’s Got Talent!” For his audition, Ben chose to sing “True Colors” by Cindy Lauper, a song that brings a lot of meaning to his life.
“The message of the song, I feel, is able to speak to people no matter their age, their race, their background,” said Ben. “It’s able to communicate a message of hope.”
As soon as Ben started to sing, the judges were simply mesmerized by his beautiful voice. But there was one judge that felt especially moved: Sofia Vergara. From the start of Ben’s performance all the way to the end, the famous actor couldn’t hold back her tears.
Ben also got a standing ovation from both the crowd and the judges alike. After watching his performance for ourselves, we can totally see why!
