It is truly heartwarming when a group of children gets together to put the “neighbor” back in the neighborhood. Nate Gibson posted a video of his kids and a couple of their friends singing Happy Birthday to an elderly neighbor who lives alone. Her smile says how much this meant to her.

We’re all busy. The kids have school, extracurriculars, soccer, and baseball practice. Parents are stretched thin just getting everyone where they need to be. When children aren’t busy, they spend their time inside playing on screens, scrolling through social media, or streaming movies. Outside play can be rare.
When Pokémon Go became popular, many people began spending more time outside. They were still occupied on screens but out in the fresh air. We need more of that. Seeing these children playing outside and using their time to offer birthday wishes to their elderly neighbor is refreshing.
Nate is no stranger to the power of a community.
In September 2020, Nate was involved in a life-threatening accident. His injuries included a broken neck, back, torn arteries, a punctured spleen and liver, and a ruptured bowel. There was no way for Nate to return to his previous job. He found unity in the community of Coshocton, Ohio.
While he was recuperating, friends started a GoFundMe, and the community assisted the family. After a months-long recovery, Nate opened his own business, Gibson Interior Painting. He had experience as a painter, and it would not be too physically demanding as he continues healing.
There is now a waiting list for his painting services. He and his wife had a third child. His children are spreading good cheer to an elderly lady on her birthday. What a blissful, “happily ever after” ending.
