Babydog is an English bulldog belonging to West Virginia Senator Jim Justice. The senator has taken to using the dog as a prop, but not in a bad way. Instead, he grandstands the dog as a spokesperson for the common man. A couple of weeks ago, she made an appearance at a Senate Energy Committee hearing.

Although Babydog can’t speak English, Senator Justice acts as a translator for her. He held the dog on his lap during her testimony. The senator began by expressing that Babydog had done something important to everyone because she humanizes us. She makes people smile. He added that she loves everybody, which is not an uncommon trait for the breed. Bulldogs are extremely loyal and really good family dogs. They can be playful at times, but mostly like to be chill.
Senator Justice translated Babydog’s testimony. “If we make people smile and love everybody it would be a better world.” The short and sweet message was heartwarming. He continued the translation, “If you’re rich or poor or a kid or an adult or God forbid, a Republican or Democrat, she still loves you. And so let’s just celebrate, just this little thing as she humanized us, humanizes all of us. Thank you so much.”

Babydog is 5 years old. Before making statements at Senate hearings, she was in the WVA Governor’s Mansion. When Babydog speaks, people listen (you’re OLD if you thought of the old E.F. Hutton commercial).
Regardless of your political affiliations, the message from Senator Justice via Babydog is universal. Make people smile and love everyone. If you want more tidbits of wisdom from Babydog you can follow her official account on X (Twitter). She is probably not finished speaking her mind.
